Mission Statement

The Opening Doors Project is dedicated to promoting positive mental health, fostering family well-being, and building resilient, connected communities. Through inclusive wellness activities, creative engagement, sustainable practices, and vital support services—including our food hub, mindful activity programs, recycling and resewing initiatives, and seasonal community events—we create a welcoming space where individuals of all ages can thrive, connect, and grow together.

The Opening Doors Project began with a simple belief—that everyone deserves to feel supported, valued, and connected. What started as a small idea has grown into a community where people uplift each other every day. It's not just about services—it's about heart, hope, and belonging. I'm proud of what we've built together."

Our Journey Since 2019

Opening hearts, minds, and possibilities—together.

In 2019, The Opening Doors Project began as a simple idea: to create a safe, welcoming space that supports families and promotes mental well-being. Since then, we've grown into a vital part of our local community—bringing people together, offering essential services, and helping individuals and families thrive.

Supporting Families with Food and Care

At the heart of our work is our Food Hub, open four days and two evenings a week. It's more than just a place to access food—it's a place of compassion, conversation, and connection. Each visit brings a sense of relief, dignity, and community.

Promoting Wellbeing and Mindful Living

To support mental health and personal growth, we offer a wide range of wellness and mindful activities for all ages and abilities. These include:

  • Gardening and growing together
  • Diamond art, adult crafts, and creative clubs
  • Chair-based exercise and gentle movement
  • Quizzes, bingo, and social evenings
    Community events and seasonal celebrations

Our Mindful Activity Hub gives people a chance to relax, express themselves, and find joy in the small things—while building friendships and confidence.

Supporting Families Year-Round

During school holidays, we offer play provision and family-friendly activities, making sure children have safe, enriching spaces and parents feel supported throughout the year.

Building a Sustainable Community

Our commitment to sustainability led us to launch a Recycling Hub, where we recycle both food and fabrics. Through our Recycle ReseW Project, we turn donated textiles into new creations used in our craft sessions or sold to support our work.

We also run community litter picks, upcycling workshops, and encourage everyone to be part of caring for our shared environment. Sustainability, for us, means looking after each other and the planet.

Growing a Stronger, Kinder Community

Through everything we do—food support, creative engagement, wellbeing activities, environmental work, and community events—our goal has always been the same: to open doors to connection, opportunity, and hope.

From a small start in 2019, we’ve grown into a place where people can come as they are, feel seen, and find the support they need to move forward.
