National Lottery thanked for 'helping support so many people'

Charity stocked with food for Winter Food Hub.

THE Opening Doors Project has thanked the National Lottery for providing funds to feed needy families over the Christmas period.

More than 200 people were fed through the charity’s Winter Food Hub supported by the Lottery’s Community Fund Awards For All Scheme.

After stocking up with a visit to a local supermarket – filling the Opening Doors van with tinned and perishable foodstuffs – volunteers worked in shifts to pack the hampers and then distribute them to supplied addresses.

Struggling families in receipt of benefits or in need due to crisis had been encouraged to submit online referral forms.

People were also invited to submit requests on behalf of friends and neighbours.

Gayle Connor-McCreith, coordinator at Opening Doors Project said: “Thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund, we were able to feed more than 200 people through our Winter Food Hub. Christmas food parcels were delivered two weeks before and during Christmas week.

“A very big thank you to the National Lottery Community Fund Awards For All scheme for funding this provision and supplying the core funding for our infrastructure this year.

“You have enabled the charity to support so many people and uplift the community.”
